What is Bespoke Clothing?

If you imagine a time before big-box outlets and designer clothing boutiques, the only real way to get fitted clothing was to have it made for you. Dating back to around the 18th century England, the term “bespoke” was used to state that a piece of cloth or build of a garment was “spoken for”. When referring to a garment that is custom made for a customer without the use of a pre-existing pattern, bespoke is the right word to use.
